When to send each one. Friendly about a week after the due date. Firm at two weeks, with work paused if your agreement allows it. Final at three weeks, with a specific deadline about seven days out. Keep the tone flat at every stage, and always include the invoice number, the amount and the way to pay. Put the dates in your calendar the day you send the invoice.
Before you go to court. Small-claims limits and filing fees vary by province or state, and they change. Check the small-claims court page where the customer is based before you name it as a next step.
