What this publishes, and why.
There is a course for every trade and a qualification for every profession. What nobody sits you down and explains is how to hold your nerve when the work carries your name, or how to tell the difference between keeping at something and refusing to admit it has failed.
Those are the parts that actually decide how a working life turns out, and they are mostly learned late, by accident, at cost. This publication is an attempt to write them down properly.
On the name
It should not be read too literally. This is not a startup blog, a side-hustle guide, or a site about making money online. Payday here means consequence: what eventually comes of what a man becomes and how he works. Sometimes that is money. Often it is not.
So courage is allowed to be about courage. Patience is allowed to be about patience. No manual here will be bent around to end at a bank balance, and the territory will keep widening as the shelf does: character, judgment, craft, risk, reputation, failure, responsibility, ambition.
On the form
Handbooks rather than articles. The distinction matters to me. An article is written to be read once and replaced by next week's; a handbook is written to be kept and argued with. That means these are longer than is fashionable, largely uninterrupted, and free of the machinery that usually surrounds writing on the internet.
Each one is reasoned from serious traditions of thought about its subject, classical virtue ethics among them, without becoming a tour of philosophers. The history is there to make the treatment accurate, not to decorate it. Where honest disagreement exists, I have tried to say so instead of manufacturing a settled answer.
On the terms
Every manual is free, in full. No account, no paywall, nothing withheld for an email address, and no plan to change that. The shelf grows when a manual is ready rather than on a schedule, because the alternative is publishing things before they are finished, which defeats the point of the form.
Costs are covered by a small number of sponsorships arranged directly. Details are on the advertise page.
